ABOUT THE WORK
I'm an Island takes the island as a metaphor for an inner state.
The installation creates a physical island through a circle of stones and a photograph printed on translucent silk chiffon. The image hovers within the space while the stones establish a boundary between inside and outside.
The circle marks the island, but also creates a space that can be entered. Visitors are invited to step across its boundary, pause within it, or experience it from the outside. Crossing the circle becomes a simple, almost ritual act: for a moment, one enters a space set apart from its surroundings.
The work does not offer a single understanding of what it means to be an island. The island can feel like freedom or confinement, solitude or loneliness, refuge or exile. How it is experienced depends on the person encountering it—and the inner landscape they bring with them.
The installation invites a sensory and bodily experience before interpretation. Rather than explaining a mental state, it creates the conditions for it to be felt.
