ABOUT THE WORK
I'm an Island explores the island as a mental landscape—a place between protection and isolation, longing and belonging.
In this installation, the island is not a geographical place but a space of consciousness. It exists in the tension between retreat and connection, solitude and belonging.
Set within Brønshøj Water Tower, a circle of stones forms an island surrounded by an invisible sea. The circle can be understood as both a place of refuge and a boundary.
Two statements appear on transparent silk:
I am an island.
No man is an island.
No man is an island.
Rather than resolving the tension between them, the installation invites visitors to step onto the island and inhabit the space between the two.
Visitors are invited to enter the island.
